Mnew

Two months ago I've been invited via my Etsy shop to propose a picture of one of my plush for the Grumpy Bert's photo event in Brooklyn, USA: Plush Stories : These Plush of Mine.

Hi Myriam - I would like to invite you to an open call for an upcoming show called, "Plush Stories : These Plush of Mine." I am seeking personal stories and photos of your plush toy. -grumpy bert

Among many miniature plushies hand stitched with felt, this little eskimo wolf guy has been the chosen one.

The exhibition opening was held last Saturday.
plush stories : opening reception photos 6/30/12

To present the little eskimo guy, I wrote these words for Grumpy Bert:
In European fairy tales, Wolf is a dangerous and mean animal. In Native Amerindian culture, Wolf is a teacher.

An acronym is formed from the initial letters of a group of words. The plush I've hand stitched with felt and love is a Miniature Ninja Eskimo Wolf. And he is called Mnew.

Be pleased to meet Mnew, the tiny teacher. He may look very small and naive, but he knows a lot, and knowledge is powerful.

Ni dieu ni maitre

In 1880 French libertarian socialist Louis-Auguste Blanqui entitled an anarchist newspaper Ni dieu ni maitre. The term has become then the anarchist movement motto.

Portrait of Louis-Auguste Blanqui by Antoine Joseph Wiertz, Belgian romantic painter and sculptor.

Sitôt que l'esprit humain cesse de comprendre, il dit Dieu.
Soon as the human mind stop understanding, it says God.

Most anarchists agree on a slogan to define their ideology, Ni dieu ni maitre (Neither God nor Master). The phrase does not insult the spiritual beliefs of individuals or groups but rather the need to fight all those who use religion to control the thinking and actions of believers and nonbelievers. Similarly, do not obey a master does not mean ignoring the diagnosis of a doctor when he says there is a disease, but rather the refusal of any physical or mental coercion from an illegitimate authority whatsoever. The state police and the owners do not simply inform us of a situation and then leave us to decide for ourselves what choices we prefer. They force us under the threat of violence and hunger. They force us to serve them, obey them and die in wars they created.

-- Excerpt from Common Cause # 9, Newspaper of NEFAC (Federation of Libertarian Communists Northeast) Quebec, Canada

Google helped me to translate this (just a little bit gnangnan) definition of the motto from Encyclopédie des expressions

One of the most recognizable and irreverent French comic book artists, Reiser, also liked the phrase. Smiley.

Happy people make me shit!

First I hand embroidered the four words.

The dark side of the felt reveals a strange coded language I don't understand.

Then I reduced the slogan into tattoo style parchment flags.

Needed supplies: cotton stuffing, thread, felt and my smiling (why not) cardboard heart shaped template.

Almost done.

Ok, now we've got a reversible anarchist miniature felt heart ornament plush, aaahh.

Thank you for your interest in my work.

A wolf girl, her eyelashes.

A few weeks before my daughter's 17th birthday (last Wednesday), she told me she wanted a mommy-made little plushie as her gift.

- Ok, baby. I'll create a miniature ninja eskimo wolf for you.
- Make him a girl! Put some eyelashes! Just like Sponge Bob, FOUR eyelashes!

(She's a big fan of Sponge Bob. But Sponge Bob only has three eyelashes.)
- Ooh what a cool idea!

She chose the colors for the felt I'm gonna use: white wolf, denim blue coat. It's a girl so a touch of pink is added. He he.

First, the winter coat is cut and decorated with hand embroidery.

Second, I cut the body of the wolf girl. Her face was hand embroidered. Her head, breast and arms, sewn and stuffed.

Third, the winter coat is applied to the plush. After that, belly and legs will be filled with stuffing and sewn.

Here we go. There she is.

There are miniature ninja eskimo wolf plushies in my Etsy shop right now. Only boys. No girl. Yet.

Thank you for your interest in my work and have a wonderful day.

Lions & hand embroidery.

Be pleased to meet the second Miniature Ninja Lion Plush He is approx. 2 inches tall and he is made with felt, faux fur and love.

What's the best way to represent a lion? Mane, yes, of course. Ok, now, look at this little lion. Big mane, right?

But is he really a lion? Or just another unnamed little ninja monsters of my imagination?

A lovely man gave me precious cues:
Small ears.
Yep, a muzzle.
And don't forget the freckles!

Nala from Disney's The Lion King

Hehe!
Since I love doing hand embroidery, I totally embraced the idea.

And there is a ninja lion.

Grrrr.

The first two felines in the Miniature Ninja Lion Plush series.

Ninja Lion #1
He's now listed in my Etsy shoppe HERE.

Ninja Lion #2

Ninja Lion #0
This little guy was rejected because no embroidered muzzle and no freckles.

The one who was embroiderielly forsaken also looks socially rejected. I feel sorry for him but, you know, I really enjoy making this new series including hand embroidery. ♫♪♪♫ Hope you're happy too. ♫♪♪♫

The wind made them fall within two shots.

Be pleased to meet my two newest tiny ninja bunny plush.

After I took this picture of my new tiny ninja bunny periwinkle girl beside her friend, a tiny ninja bunny blue boy, the wind blew twice. First blow, the girl fell. Second blow, the boy fell.

And the two mini rabbits just landed next to the other, perfectly!

The bunnies fragilely stood by the window on those needles.

*-*

Thank you for your interest in my miniatures.

The incredible shrinking bunny.

A tiny creature taking place next to pencils… When I first saw this picture of my new Mini Ninja Bunny Blue Boy, this incredible movie came to my mind: The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957). You know, just before the existential closing monologue, when "the man hit by a mysterious mist" uses a giant pencil as a raft, to escape a flood…

I was continuing to shrink, to become... what? The infinitesimal? What was I? Still a human being? Or was I the man of the future? […] Yes, smaller than the smallest, I meant something, too. To God, there is no zero. I still exist!

Thank you for your interest in my miniatures.

My white avatar is duplicated.

August 11th 2010: I begin to hand sew with felt the tiniest plushies I could make. I call them baby yetis. I also like the idea that imaginary animals could reproduce themselves… August 13th 2010: the first three mini yetis are listed in my Etsy shop. This white tiny monster immediately becomes the avatar of Mimi Matelot, my online and artistic alter ego.

September 11th 2010: one of my dearest friends buys the mini plush on Etsy. He gives his yeti a name: Vaahtokaramelli. And even if Vaahtokaramelli is sold, he is still the logo of Mimi Matelot. May 21st 2011: I receive a lovely message from Johanne through facebook, telling me she wants to buy my white avatar. I go back to my needles and felt.

I like custom resquests! Johanne also asked me for a chocolate mini bunny girl. Cool!

Thank you for your interest.
